ESTABLISHMENT, VISION & STATUS
The Act Establishing The School:
The enabling act establishing the Delta State School of Marine Technology, Burutu was enacted on 2nd August, 2006. The act provides details on the specific functions; management and other purposes connected therewith the school.

Vision Statement:
To become a world-class centre of excellence in maritime scholarship

Mission Statement:
To promote competence, expertise and enterprise in Marine Science, Engineering and Technology through the instrumentality of high quality training, purposeful research, high profile career-driven capacity building and pragmatic consultancy services for the maritime and allied industries/commerce in particular and for the peaceful and sustainable development of the Niger Delta region and the entire globe in general.

Motto: Knowledge for Discipline and Enterprise
The National Policy of Education and the National Board of Technical Education's guideline and operational definition/categorization of institutions in Nigeria (1993), the Delta State School of Maritime Technology, Burutu shall function as a Monotechnic, specializing in teaching, Training, research and consultancy (and other forms of community service)inn the field of maritime Technology, Maritime Engineering and Maritime Science and Management.

Philosophy of the School Programmes
All the programmes in the institution are tailored towards producing creative and innovative graduates with reputable and self-sustaining scientific, technical and technology knowledge, skills and attitude capable of responding to challenging tasks and projects in industries, commerce and other endeavors of life within the public and private sectors.
