ADMISSION INTO PRELIMINARY BASIC STUDIES FOR THE 2017/2018 ACADEMIC SESSION

 

The Delta State School of Marine Technology, Burutu, is an institution with multi-campuses at Gbaregolor and Kwale. The institution which is fully accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the underlisted Preliminary Basic Studies for the 2017/2018 Academic Session. The preliminary programme for (1 year) will enable applicants gain direct entry into ND programme after undergoing the Basic Studies in the course of choice of the applicants.

 

1.  PRELIMINARY BASIC STUDIES (1 YEAR)

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE NATIONAL DIPLOMA (ND)

SSCE/NECO/GCE/NABTEB/NBC ordinary level or its equivalent with credits in five (5) subjects relevant to the course, obtained at not more than two (2) sittings;

  • For Department of Engineering Technology: Marine Engineering, Oil and Gas Engineering, Boat and Ship Building Engineering, Mechanical Engineering; credit passes in Mathematics; Physics; Chemistry; English Language and one of the following subjects: Technical Drawing, Biology/Agricultural Science; Economics/Commerce; Additional Mathematics; Statistics; Auto-Mechanic and Metal Work at not more than two sittings.
  • For Department of Engineering Technology, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering and Computer Engineering; credit passes in Mathematics; Physics; English Language and two subjects from the following: Chemistry; Technical Drawing; Biology/Agricultural Science; Economics/Commerce; Additional Mathematics; Statistics; Auto-Mechanic and Metal Work at not more than two sittings.
  • For Department of Engineering Technology, the National Technical Certificate (NTC)/City and Guilds Certificates/WAEC Technical Certificate with credit passes in the trade modules, Chemistry; Mathematics; English Language; and Physics. Credit pass in any one of the following is an added advantage; Geography; Economics/Commerce; Technical Drawing; Biology/Agricultural Science; Basic Electronic; Basic Electricity; Statistics and Entrepreneurship.
  • For Department of Nautical Science and Technology: Nautical Science and Seamanship, Science Laboratory Technology, Fisheries and Fisheries Technology, Oceanography, Computer Science; Credit passes in Mathematics; English Language and four (3) subjects from the following: Chemistry; Physics; Biology/Agricultural Science; Geography; Economics/Commerce; Basic Electronics; Technical Drawing and Statistics.
  • For Industrial Safety and Environmental Management Technology, Credit passes in Mathematics; Chemistry and Biology/Agricultural Science; plus any two (2) subjects from the following: English Language; Technical Drawing; Geography; Economics and Statistics.
  • For Survey and Geo-informatics, credit passes in Mathematics and Physics and three (3) subjects from the following: English Language; Technical Drawing; Geography; Basic Surveying; Statistics; Economics/Commerce; and Biology/Agricultural Science.
  • For Department of Maritime Transport and Business Studies: for Accounting, Public Administration, Business Administration, Marketing and Maritime Transport, five (5) O’level credits including English Language; Mathematics and any other three (3) credits from Geography; Statistics; French; Economics/Commerce; Government/History or Civic Education; Accounting; and Biology/Agricultural Science.
  • For Estate Management, Credit passes in Mathematics; English Language and three (3) subjects from the following: Physics; Chemistry; Geography; Statistics; Technical Drawing; Basic Surveying; Economics/Commerce; Biology/Agricultural Science; Art; Woodwork and Metal Work.

For Urban and Regional Planning, five (5) Credits passes in not more than two (2) sittings in Mathematics; English Language and one of the following subjects: Geography; Economics/Commerce; Statistics; Art; and two science subjects from Chemistry; Physics; Technical Drawing and Biology/Agricultural Science.

 

Note: The School has just concluded the sales of National Diploma (ND) forms for 2017/2018 academic session. National Diploma form for the next session (2018/2019)      is not out yet.

 

      Entry Requirements for the Preliminary Basic Studies (1 Year)

  • SSCE/NECO/GCE/NABTEB/NBC ordinary level or its equivalent with credits in four (4) subjects relevant to the course, obtained at not more than two (2) sittings;
  • SSCE/NECO/GCE/NABTEB/NBC ordinary level or its equivalent with credits in three (3) subjects relevant to the course, obtained at not more than two (2) sittings;
  • SSCE/NECO/GCE/NABTEB/NBC ordinary level or its equivalent with credits in two (2) subjects relevant to the course, obtained at not more than two (2) sittings;
  • Awaiting result in SSCE/NECO/GCE/NABTEB/NBC ordinary level or its equivalent will also be accepted for admission into our Preliminary Basic Studies/Programme.
